About the championship
The Chess for Education Cup is a free chess championship for children and adults, organised by the Plus for Education Foundation. The first edition takes place in early 2027 in Măgurele, Romania, with the ambition of growing into a national championship.
Chess teaches patience, focus, thinking before acting and respect for the opponent. We want every child who loves the game to be able to play in a real tournament, with arbiters and FIDE rules, at no cost.
Format
- Two tournaments: Children (born 2009–2019) and Open (all ages, minimum 7 years old).
- Weekend 1 — qualifiers (30–31 January 2027): two groups per tournament, 4 rounds per group, up to 50 players per group.
- Weekend 2 — finals (6–7 February 2027): the top 25 of each group play their tournament's final, over 6 rounds.
- Swiss system (FIDE Dutch system), rapid time control 15 minutes + 5 seconds per move.
The dates avoid school holidays and long weekends. Pairings and live results are published on Tornelo, and the final standings appear on this site.

Results will be published after each round.
